Bushcraft

Bushcraft is a term used to describe the skills gained that help you to not only survive but thrive in the outdoors. The word itself has been used as far back as the 1800’s, the word bushman comes from the Dutch ‘boschjesman’ which is applied to natives of varying countries that live in the bush.

To efficiently practise bushcraft, you need to acquire a unique set of skills such as; fire lighting, shelter building, natural navigation, foraging, water sourcing and purification, tracking and trapping and the use of tools both modern and traditional. These essential skills can then be supplemented with things such as; natural cord making, knots and lashings, wood-carving and campcrafts.

With the skills you can learn on our courses you can head out into the outdoors with just the essentials and be confident that should the need arise, you would be able to comfortably survive with the knowledge you carry and be able to create any items you may need from your surroundings.

Once you have the knowledge and skills the best way to preserve them is to continually practice them and keep improving your efficiency in using them. At Surviving Wild Bushcraft we will be offering “skill sharing” days for those who want to come along and practise and connect with likeminded people once they have been on one of our courses, this provides a safe space to be able to practise your skills and maintain a connection with the outdoors.
